Let’s be honest—staying consistent with your diet and exercise routine isn’t always easy. Some days you’re meal prepping and PR-ing like a machine, and other days you’re wondering if counting steps from the couch to the fridge qualifies as cardio. Here’s what I coach my clients through when their motivation is in short supply and their sweatpants are doing a little too much heavy lifting.

Get Clear on Your “Why”

You can’t stay motivated if you don’t know what you’re working toward. Want more energy? More strength? More confidence when you’re chasing your kids or walking into a room? That’s your “why.”

When you’re tempted to skip a workout or throw in the towel on your nutrition plan, reminding yourself why you started can be the anchor that pulls you through. Seriously—put it on a sticky note, make it your phone background, tattoo it on your forehead (okay maybe not that last one, but you get it).

You can just call out those wins as they come, but I’m a big fan of writing them down. Creating a log of all your wins is a great reminder of how far you’ve come, and super motivating when you want to quit.

Focus on Progress, Not Perfection

One skipped workout or one “off” meal doesn’t undo all your hard work. This journey isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being consistent. Progress might mean lifting five more pounds than last month, walking a little faster, or finally making peace with burpees. (Okay, maybe not that last one.)
