What to Expect Your First Month of CrossFit

If you’re CrossFit-curious and have ever wondered, “what is the first month of CrossFit actually like?” — you’re in the right place. The first month of CrossFit can feel exciting, intimidating, empowering, and a little awkward. And guess what? That’s normal.

Let’s talk about that first month so you know exactly what to expect, at least here at Two Six.

The Goal of Your First Month of CrossFit Isn’t Perfection

Many people assume the first month of CrossFit is about going all-out and proving you belong. But the main goal of your first month of CrossFit is to help you feel safe, supported, and confident enough to keep showing up.

How Our On-Ramp Sessions Work

Before you begin regular classes, you’ll start with On-Ramp, which consists of three one-on-one sessions with a coach.

These are private, personalized, and designed to help you learn foundational movements, go over the technique at your pace, build confidence before group classes, and ask all the questions (yes, even the “silly” ones).

This is a big part of why our members feel successful in their first month of CrossFit. You’re not guessing or copying the person next to you. You’re learning how things should feel for your body.

What Classes Actually Feel Like in Month One

Let’s bust a few myths real quick.

During your first month of CrossFit, you’ll notice:

  • Everyone is doing slightly different versions of the workout
  • Coaches give options for weight, reps, and movements
  • Resting is normal and encouraged
  • No one cares what weight you’re using (truly)

You might feel sore and will probably feel proud. You may have moments of “wow, I didn’t know I could do that.”

And if something doesn’t feel right, we adjust. That’s coaching.

You Don’t Need to Be “In Shape” for Your First Month of CrossFit

You don’t need to get fit before starting CrossFit.

The first month of CrossFit is literally designed for people who are:

  • Coming back after a long break
  • New to strength training
  • Over 30, 40, 50+
  • Nervous but curious

If you can walk through the door, you’re qualified.

The Community Part (AKA the Unexpected Bonus)

Most people join for fitness, but stay because of the people.

During your first month of CrossFit, you’ll probably notice:

  • People cheering for you (even when they just met you)
  • Coaches remembering your name
  • High-fives after workouts
  • A very real “oh… this feels good,” like you’ve been working out next to this crew for years (not days)

We take training seriously. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. And that matters.
