I started CrossFit shortly after the birth of my third child.
I struggled with postpartum depression, anxiety, and OCD after the birth of all three kiddos. This time around, I found myself isolating from others more. I spent a lot of my time on my couch with my little guy.
At some point, I decided to get myself off the couch and be around other people.
I’d heard that 26 was family-friendly, so I brought my baby in his carrier to try out a class.
The workout was unlike anything I’d ever done. Although I finished last, I was still proud of myself for hanging in there. But that’s not all. The community welcomed me with open arms, even holding my baby when he fussed so I could finish my workout.
These people became some of my closest friends in the coming years, as CrossFit became my main form of exercise.
I still had to do lots of work outside of the gym (like therapy and meds) to overcome my postpartum struggles. But CrossFit gave me the energy to do the work, and it helped me believe I was strong enough to come out of that phase of life even stronger.
